What StatsMyWeb is

StatsMyWeb is a public tool for looking up what is publicly known about a domain. Its domain report shows how the domain is set up right now: DNS records, HTTPS reachability, response headers, redirects, WHOIS data, SSL certificate, meta tags, robots.txt and the technology it appears to use. Where the data exists, it also shows how connected the domain is to the rest of the web, and which domains it links to and from. The question it answers is how this part of the web is put together and what it connects to, not what a page says.

What StatsMyWeb is not

It is not a search engine. It does not index the sites it describes or reproduce their text. It is not affiliated with any domain it shows data for.

It is not an official or authoritative registry either. The live checks show what the domain, the registries and the public certificate logs answered at the moment you asked. The connectivity figures are computed from open data, not supplied by the domains themselves, and they are estimates rather than guaranteed-accurate records.

Where the data comes from

Live checks run on every visit and are never cached. DNS records, HTTPS reachability, headers, redirects, meta tags and robots.txt come from the domain itself. WHOIS data comes from RDAP, the JSON-based successor to WHOIS, and the SSL certificate from the Certificate Transparency logs.

Connectivity data comes from Common Crawl’s open hyperlink graph, a periodic snapshot of how pages across the web link to each other. The methodology page sets out exactly what each figure means, which source it comes from and which snapshot it uses. The guides explain how to read the figures and how to check them by hand.

Independence

StatsMyWeb publishes independently computed data. It earns nothing from, and has no relationship with, the sites it describes.
